Celebrating 150 Years
Spearheaded by the Stone County Historical Society and Stone County Leader newspaper, a committee of community members began working in 2021 to set the foundation for a year-long celebration that will involve residents, officials and businesses throughout the county.
ROCK SOLID AT 150 - FOUNDATION FOR OUR FUTURE
The chosen slogan represents the committee's goal of celebrating the rich heritage of this county and making an impact for years to come by helping fund youth-oriented services of Stone County Community Center. Net proceeds of the year's activities will go to SCCC to be used for a community "splash pad" or other purpose that organization may choose.
The committee operates under the auspices of the Stone County Historical Society, and a sesquicentennial steering committee is responsible for directing the 150 efforts: Lori Freeze, Mary Tedsen, Renee Carr, Denise Dobbins, Stefine Brown, Robbie Purdom and Chris George. Many other residents have been involved in planning and decision making.
The committee may be reached via e-mail at StoneCounty150@gmail.com.
